Summer Fun in Langley, BC

The City of Langley, commonly referred to as Langley City, or just Langley serves up big helpings of fun and small-town charm. The Township of Langley has a rich history rooted in the Gold Rush, fur trading, and Wild Wild West folklore.

With so much to offer in a quaint, picturesque package conveniently located just outside Vancouver, exploring Langley is one of the best getaways (or staycations, for the locals!) to enjoy this summer!

Explore The Trails and Parks In Langley, BC

Langley is not lacking in outdoor recreation. There are a whopping 17 parks here, plus tons of trails!

  • Brookswood Park - This community park has a popular dog park and skateboard park. 
  • Campbell Valley Regional Park - A lovely rural park set on farmland, with an intricate network of hiking and horseback riding trails.
  • Williams Park - Wildly popular with families, Williams Park has a large playground and “secret” swimming holes with a small beach and rope swing!
  • Brae Island Regional Park - Just across from Fort Langley, this park is situated on an island in the Fraser River, offering several trails and popular campsites. 
  • Fort to Fort Trail - This laid-back, four-kilometer trail follows the scenic Fraser River, connecting Derby Reach Regional Park to the Fort Langley National Historic Site. Enjoy a little of everything on this trail, including mountain and river views, a wildflower-blanketed meadow, and of course, fascinating Fort Langley. Best of all, the trail is relatively flat, making it ideal for families with strollers or pets. 
  • Horseback riding - Langley is known as the horse capital of British Columbia and therefore has numerous equestrian centres and trails to enjoy, including Glen Valley Stables, which offers several scenic trail rides.

Langley Activities for the Whole Family

  • Fort Langley National Historic Site - Step back in time with a visit to this 1800s-era former fur trading post, commonly referred to as the birthplace of British Columbia and now a Parks Canada-managed site. Explore reconstructed rustic wood buildings, take a self-guided audio tour, or let the little ones participate in the hands-on Xplorers Program. 
  • Greater Vancouver Zoo - Vancouver’s zoo, home to over 140 animal species, is right here in Langley. The zoo is especially walkable, but there’s also a fun train, as well as behind-the-scenes experiences and educational zookeeper talks.

The Fraser Valley is home to dozens of golf courses, and many of the best are within a short and scenic 30-minute drive from Langley. Check out these local favourites:

  • The Redwoods Golf Course - a variety of terrain and beautiful coastal mountain views
  • Belmont - Les Furber-designed championship 18-hole golf course just south of Fort Langley and with an onsite grill restaurant 
  • Fort Langley - Widely considered a hidden gem, this course is popular with locals. It’s situated right on the banks of the Fraser River, offering gorgeous and unique scenery, as well as more challenging terrain for dedicated golfers
  • Poppy Estate Golf Course - Situated in Langley Township, Poppy Estate is an executive golf course open year-round. Mount Baker provides the beautiful natural backdrop and there are several obstacles on the course, including three lakes and many sand traps.
  • Pagoda Ridge - This scenic golf course is situated in one of the driest, mildest parts of the Fraser Valley, offering year-round play.

Fun fact about Langley: there are over 50 working farms here, more than any other town in the Vancouver metro area! Take the self-guided Langley Circle Farm Tour where you can sample homemade farm treats, pick your own produce, shop local artisan-made goodies, see how cheese is made from start to finish, or even milk a cow by hand! You can visit as many (or as few!) farms as you wish and many of the experiences are extremely affordable or even free, making this one of the best things to do in Langley for anyone!

Spend the Day at Krause Berry Farms in Langley, BC

Being that Langley is home to so much farmland and has deep agricultural “roots” (pun very much intended!), it should come as no surprise that Krause Berry Farms is one of the most popular and beloved local hotspots. 

U-pick berries, which are available seasonally starting in June, are one of the farm’s main attractions, but hardly the only one. Krause Berry Farms is open year-round, offering a little something for everyone. There’s a home and garden market, bakery, and wildly popular waffle bar onsite, as well as an estate winery. Pick up some berries or fresh pies to go, or relax at the winery with a glass or flight of wine. The winery is open year-round, while the U-pick orchards and market are seasonal. There’s also plenty of comfortable outdoor seating available!
