Tour the Burbank Aviation Museum
The Burbank Aviation Museum, also known as the Portal of Folded Wings, celebrates the history of aviation and aerospace. Located at the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery, this unique museum offers an impressive collection of aviation artifacts and memorials dedicated to pioneering aviators. The origins of the museum date back to the early 20th century. The structure that houses the museum was initially constructed in 1924 as the entrance to Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery. In the mid-1950s, the Valhalla Memorial Rotunda was repurposed as a shrine dedicated to aviation pioneers. The idea was conceived by aviation enthusiasts who saw the potential of the site to honor those who had made significant contributions to the development of aviation. By 1953, the structure was transformed into the Portal of Folded Wings Shrine to Aviation. The name "Folded Wings" symbolized the end of life’s journey for these aviation pioneers, with their wings metaphorically folded. The outdoor exhibits are free to explore and provide fascinating insights into the world of flight.
